The Plainfield Fire Protection District will be purchasing a HazSim Pro radiation and multi gas training monitor to assist firefighters with training scenarios thanks to a grant from Illinois American Water (IAW).
The IAW 2017 Firefighter Grant Program provides financial assistance to fire and emergency organizations serving communities in its service areas.
Illinois American Water’s Firefighter Grant Program awards grants to provide personal protective gear, communications equipment, firefighting tools, water handling equipment, training materials and classroom programs.
Plainfield Fire Chief David Riddle thanked Illinois American Water during the check presentation.
“The Board of Trustees and the members of the Plainfield Fire Protection District would like to express our sincere thanks to Illinois American Water for their generous grant program and for awarding grant funding to our Fire District,” said Riddle.

Elizabeth Harman: Advancing Health and Safety Training for Firefighters and First Responders
Firefighters at Shrewsbury Fire Dept Station 3 MA conducted the first day of several hands on hazmat scenarios using their HazSim Pro for HazMat Simulation. The day included foam application, first in considerations, and a simulated chemical suicide in a vehicle. Firefighters used HazSim Pro during the scenarios which gave the user realistic feedback.

The Pennsylvania State Fire Academy (PSFA) under the authority of the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC) is pleased to announce the annual Act 13 of 2012 Unconventional Gas Well Drilling (UGWD) Grant program.ELIGIBLE PROJECTS
• Certification – Obtaining professional National Certification for members.
• Equipment – Purchase of firefighting, emergency medical, rescue, or air monitoring equipment used on, or related to, an unconventional gas well pad emergency response. All equipment purchased through the grant program will include training on the equipment provided at no additional costs to the grant recipients(s).
• Training – Training classes and required educational materials paid for with Program funds must be PSFA approved curriculum, and meet a predetermined minimum class size.
